Dave Bolar
(Class of 1977)
Dave Bolar is one of the finest golfer’s West High has ever produced. He is also a benefactor and long time supporter of West High’s golf team. At 18 months old, Dave Bolar’s family moved from the windswept plains of Waynoka Oklahoma to California, and he has lived in Bakersfield for the past 55 years. Bolar attended West High School from 1973 to 1977, where he played on the golf team for all four years. He continued his golf career at Bakersfield College for two years, being named Most Valuable Player in his freshman year and winning the State Team title in his sophomore year—a remarkable achievement as the first and only Bakersfield College golf team to do so. His professional career took root at Kern City Golf Course (now Sundale Country Club) in 1982, where he climbed from assistant professional to his current position as Head Golf Professional. The achievement of his PGA Class A card in 1989 marked not just a professional milestone, but the beginning of a deeper mission to nurture the sport he loves. Bolar is now a Life member of the PGA. Together with Kimberli Craven, a fellow West High graduate, Dave owned and operated D & K Pro Shop for 23 years. “My commitment to nurturing young talent remains unwavering. I continue to support both the boys and girls West High School golf teams, providing not just facilities, but inspiration to the next generation of golfers. I take great pride in having been involved with the West High School golf tournament for the past 25 years.” “I believe that my story is more than a biography-it’s a celebration of passion, perseverance, and the transformative power of finding one’s true calling.” |
