Keith Williams
(Class of 1984)
Keith Williams was a football, basketball and track star athlete at West High, graduating in 1984. He went on to play football for Taft and UNLV, earning many honors. Keith Brian Williams is the son of Clem and Edith Williams. He is the eldest of three siblings: sister Patrice Shontelle Williams, and brother Brandon Kelly Williams, who also attended West High. Keith started his football career at a young age with flag football in elementary school and represented Kern County in the Los Angeles Colosseum in the national championship Punt, Pass, Kick (PPK), where he placed 4th overall in the state. In his freshman year Keith played on the junior varsity football team, and later on the varsity football team. Williams was a fast and aggressive inside linebacker. Keith was an integral part of several outstanding Viking teams, including the 1981 Valley Championship football team. Keith was coached twice in his life by Steve Tucker: in grade school and high school. Keith was recruited to play for Bakersfield College by his former high school football coach Dallas Grider, and by Taft College where Al Bullock was the head football coach. He chose Taft because he wanted the opportunity to play against his high school coach who was one of the best coaches he knew in Kern County during his high school football career. Keith and Dallas met up for the Junior College football championship playoff at BC, where Keith helped Taft win the Junior College championship. After two years at Taft College, Williams entered UNLV to continue his education and football career. While at UNLV Keith was offered a chance to try out for the Oakland Raiders and Denver Broncos football teams. However, in his last game for UNLV he received a knee injury, forcing him out of football forever. Upon completing his education at UNLV, Williams began a career at the Las Vegas, Clark County library, forever changing his life. He is now the Supervisor for the Clark County Library courier department, leading a large staff. Keith has two daughters Ashley Shontelle Williams and Emily Lorene Williams, residing in Las Vegas. |
