1978 Valley Championship Baseball Team
West High School’s 1978 varsity baseball team beat Bullard High School, the team ranked number one in the valley, in the semifinals, and then beat the number three team in the Valley (Hoover high school), in the finals. West was rated number five when the playoffs began.
Nine players on that Valley Championship team also played on the fall 1977 Valley Championship football team; quite an accomplishment for the Senior Class of1978.
The team’s record was 11-3 in non-league games, 10-2 in league games (making them the South Yosemite League champion), and 4-0 in the playoffs. The team was 25-5 overall - one of West’s best, ever.
The 1978 baseball team head coach was Dave Titsworth, with help from Steve Shelton and Ron Lauria.
