John BalfanzJohn Balfanz was born and raised in Bakersfield, CA. John graduated from West High in 1984.
While at West, John earned all-league honors in baseball and football. John was also voted Best Athlete in his class. Finally, he played basketball from his freshman to his junior years. After graduating, John played baseball at Cal State Northridge on a scholarship. While at Northridge John led the nation in home runs per-at-bat, setting the school home run record. John’s performance earned him all-league, all-Western States and Third Team All-American. John was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals and played three seasons and was a 1989 California League All Star. Balfanz is an avid golfer as well. John is a five-time Bakersfield City Amateur Golf Champion and five-time Kern County Amateur Golf Champion. At 50, John became a professional golfer and has played in the US Senior Open and Senior British Open. John is actively working to join the PGA Champions Tour. Currently John owns a home building company. John is married to his wife Carrie (West High Class of 84). John and Carrie have four children and four grandchildren. |
